Coach Jonathan Greyvenstein is one of South Africa's most accomplished high jump coaches, renowned for developing athletes from grassroots level to world-class success. An Athletics South Africa (ASA) Level 3 Coach, motivational speaker, and founder of the Jonathan Greyvenstein High Jump Academy, he has dedicated decades to identifying, mentoring, and developing athletes capable of competing on the world's biggest stages. For many years, Jonathan Greyvenstein has been recognized as one of South Africa's foremost high
jump specialists, producing athletes who have excelled at provincial, national, continental and world level.
Throughout his coaching career he has developed athletes ranging from beginners discovering the sport for the first time to international champions who have represented South Africa with distinction.
His coaching is characterized by technical precision, long-term athlete development, mental
preparation and the belief that every athlete deserves an opportunity to fulfil their God-given potential.

Jonathan established the Jonathan Greyvenstein High Jump Academy. The academy exists to:

• Create opportunities for talented athletes regardless of financial circumstances
• Build confident young leaders through sport
• Produce future South African, African and World Champions
Alongside the academy, Jonathan is actively involved in establishing sustainable funding opportunities
through a non-profit organization to assist deserving athletes with coaching, travel, competition and
international exposure.

In addition to coaching, Jonathan Greyvenstein is an accomplished motivational speaker who inspires
schools, sports clubs, businesses and athletes. His presentations focus on leadership, faith, discipline,
overcoming adversity, pursuing excellence, unlocking personal potential and building championship
mindsets. Drawing on decades of experience working with elite athletes, Jonathan shares practical
lessons that empower individuals to pursue excellence both in sport and in life.

Legacy

For decades, Jonathan Greyvenstein has played a significant role in shaping South African high
jumping. From coaching one of the greatest high jumpers in history, Jacques Freitag, to developing
Africa's first female two meter high jumper Charmain Gale, as well as Bianca Erasmus who became African Champion as well as mentoring multiple national champions, and now guiding the next generation through athletes such as Kenneth Phooko, his influence continues to be felt across South African Athletics.
Jonathan's legacy is measured not only by medals and records, but by the lives he has transformed through coaching.
His continued commitment to excellence, athlete development and opportunity ensures that his impact

Jacques Freitag

Perhaps Jonathan's most celebrated athlete is Jacques Freitag, one of the greatest high jumpers in
athletics history. Under Jonathan's coaching, Jacques became:
World Champion
World Junior Champion
World Youth Champion
African Record Holder
South African Record Holder
Personal Best: 2.38 meters
Jacques remains one of only a select few athletes in history to win World Youth, World Junior and
Senior World Championship titles.

Charmaine Gale-Weavers

Jonathan coached Charmaine Gale-Weavers, who became the first African woman to clear 2.00 meters
in the high jump one of African athletics' landmark achievements.

Brian Raats

Jonathan also coached Brian Raats, who achieved a World Championship Silver Medal
Under-17 personal best of 2.26 meters and establishing himself as one of South Africa's leading junior high
jump talents.

Joost van der Westhuizen 

Early in his sporting career, Jonathan coached Joost van der Westhuizen as an Under-17 high jumper.
Joost recorded a personal best of 2.10 meters before becoming one of South Africa's greatest rugby
players and a legendary Springbok international.
